Jennifer Cumberland is a Registered Nurse with a Bachelor’s degree in the Science of Nursing from Ohio University. She has 18 plus years’ experience caring for those with acute and chronic illnesses, community and public health issues, infectious and communicable diseases, and those with varying socioeconomic backgrounds. She also has experience in caring for the very young up through the elderly populations. Her passion lies in holistic and alternative care with a strong background in conventional, Western medicine. Course Description

This course is designed for nurse clinicians to improve care and compassion by actively assessing self and others for non-verbal cues, as well as the environment in diverse healthcare settings. The purpose of this course is to help nurses learn how to accurately interpret body language cues and assess self for negatively-perceived body language.After taking this course, the learner should be able to identify familiarnon-verbal cues as well as determine the importance of active and open communication when working with patients and their families.

Course Objectives

Upon completion of this course the Nurse:

  • Will become of knowledgeable of the art and science of body language
  • Will understand the study of semantics
  • Will learn how to assess and interpret body language
  • Will understand verbal, non-verbal cues
  • Will learn about the generational differences in body language

Jennifer Cumberland, BSN RN

Jennifer is a Registered Nurse with 18 years of experience in caring for those with acute and chronic illnesses. Additionally, she has experience working in community and public health sectors. This work has allowed Jennifer to gain firsthand experience in preventing and controlling infectious and communicable diseases through her services in school nursing and nursing case management.

Jennifer has experience in caring for varying cultures, ages, and socio-economic backgrounds. Her passion lies in holistic and alternative care with a strong background in conventional, Western medicine. Jennifer believes that with prevention, education, and compassion we can improve one’s quality of life, overall health, and emotional wellbeing.

Registered Nurse, BSN, with experience in the fields of Medical-Surgical Nursing, Community Health, Communicable Disease, Endoscopy, Gastrointestinal, School Nursing, Medical Writing/Editing, and Nursing Case Management.

Successful completion of this course will provide the learner with one (1) contact hour. This continuing nursing education activity was approved by the Virginia Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation To receive credit for this course you must pass this test with a score of 80% or higher. Contact hours will be provided for the completion of this activity from September 10, 2018 until September 18, 2020.
